We are delighted to announce that the Greenpower Corporate Challenge 2011 will be held at Silverstone Circuit, home of two British Grands Prix, in April 2011 with the support of Silverstone Circuits Limited.

Are you ready for the biggest event on the Greenpower calendar? The 2010 Formula 24 and 24+ National Final is fast approaching.

Whether you expect to be competing or not, 17th October is a date to note down as it is an un-missable occasion for anyone with an interest in Greenpower as well as casual spectators.

With an expected grid of 25 cars for Round 8 of the Formula 24+ 2010 Championship starting at 10.30am, and the top 75 Formula 24 cars from around the UK taking part in the four hour race from 1pm, it promises to be a bigger event than ever before.

Make sure you don’t miss out on this free event, and make your way to Goodwood Motor Circuit for an excellent family day out.

What a day! By far the biggest Goblin primary school event to date at Goodwood took place on Sunday 18th July 2010.

A total entry of 60 cars, some of which had travelled from as far afield as Cornwall and Staffordshire, took part in the four taxing driving skills tests. That means we processed over 300 enthusiastic young drivers on the day!

The new Velodrome test was a great success and highly regarded by the competitors as a replacement for the traditional timed Chicane Lap.

As usual the day concluded with the Race of Champions, a one lap dash around the full 2.4 mile Goodwood circuit for each team’s ‘top’ driver. 60 cars starting off row by row on their timed lap provides quite a spectacle. This was won by St Margaret's CofE Junior School from Gillingham in Kent who therefore took home the top award of the day.

We look forward to an even bigger event in 2011!

At the National Final the Philip Morant School Greenpower team were awarded the prize for the best marketing and public relations in Greenpower. The prize for the award was a visit to Prodrive. Prodrive are the company behind many of motorsport’s most successful teams - including Subaru World Rally Team and Aston Martin’s LeMans team. They also provide engineering solutions for a diverse range of applications from prosthetic limbs to space satellites.

The team were invited to spend a day at the factory. First stop of the day was the Heritage Centre - a collection of Prodrive’s most famous cars including Subaru World Rally Cars driven by Colin McRae & Richard Burns, Le Mans LMP1  & 2 Aston Martins, a 2004 BAR Honda Formula 1 showcar, the famous Group B MG Metro 6R4 Rally Car of the 1980s and more. The team were allowed to sit inside the cars. Although a drive was out of the question because most of the team couldn’t see out once they were seated inside!

We then received presentations from engineer Damien Harty about the technical projects going on at Prodrive (including details of a super-secret new rally car project which we can’t mention here!)  and marketing executive Jessica Varney about motorsport marketing and sponsorship. The team came away with lots of great information.

After lunch, we then toured the factory facilities. This included the engine and transmission workshops where gearboxes and engines from the rally and sportscars are rebuilt. A snip at £10,000 for a rebuild - needed every 800km. We also saw the Aston Martin DBRS9 workshops where DB9 road cars are stripped and rebuilt as fire-breathing race cars.

The tour included a look around the World Rally workshop, where production Subarus are turned into World Rally Cars,  the machining and fabrication shops, the electrical workshop, where wiring harnesses are built by hand for the cars (there’s over 400 metres of cable in a World Rally Car). It finished with a look around the Lola-Aston Martin LMP1 workshop where the cars were being rebuilt ready for another race in the Le Mans Series.

The team throughly enjoyed their day and thank Greenpower for awarding the prize and Prodrive for arranging such a fascinating day.
