The annual Fordingbridge Season Opener for Formula 24 cars will take place on Sunday 25th April 2010, at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex.

This is an outstanding opportunity to debut new cars or drivers in the less competitive environment of a mileage limited 90 minute race, preceding the 2010 Corporate Challenge which will take place later that day.

New and veteran teams are welcome to take part, with three drivers per team being the minimum requirement for the race. Teams invited to compete in the Corporate Challenge may also compete in the Season Opener. There will be a set mileage limit, in accordance with regulation 13.5 of the 2010 Regulations.

With an entry fee of just £25 per car, it is well worth travelling to Goodwood for the first event of 2010. To register, please email jeremy@greenpower.co.uk

Event sponsors Fordingbridge design and build insulated education buildings. Their superb sustainable design and function have many uses including: preschool buildings, sustainable classroom buildings, lecture theatres, sports halls and dining halls/cafeterias. The stunning new Greenpower Centre is a Fordingbridge product and will be open the day before the Season Opener/Corporate Challenge for vehicle scrutineering and general viewing.

The first two Goblin events will be taking place next month.  On 13th March local schools in Portsmouth will be gathering at the Mountbatten Centre for the third year to take part in a number of exciting sprint races around the 400 metre athletic track.

The following weekend, on Sunday 21st March, primary schools from across East Sussex will be descending on Plumpton College who have kindly agreed to host the Goblin sprint race event, again for the third year.

Both of these events are always great days out, so if you are not racing, why not come along and cheer on the teams, or get involved. We are always on the lookout for volunteers to help us keep the racing running smoothly. If interested, please contact luke@greenpower.co.uk.

Other Goblin events will be taking place in May, June and July. Details will be sent to all Goblin teams soon, once final details have been confirmed.

Following on from the Fordingbridge Season Opener, at 1pm on Sunday 25th April, will be The Corporate Challenge 2010.

Confirmed entries have been received from Prodrive, Bentley Motors, Jaguar LandRover, TagOn/Cambridge University Eco Racing, Zen Internet, and Nuvia who are travelling all the way from Thurso in the North of Scotland. Mix these with the top 15 school cars from 2009, some wild cards, plus a number of corporate entries yet to be received, and we have potential for a superb race in just two months time.

Corporate entries can be either built outright by apprentices, graduates or employees, or enter as rebranded school cars. After much anticipation we have moved into our fantastic new office at Fontwell, West Sussex.  The Greenpower Centre is a truly inspiring place to work, also providing a learning environment for schools, community groups and industry professionals, and an innovative test bed for low emission technologies.

It has been designed with sustainability at its core through collaboration between Greenpower, Emission-Zero, Fordingbridge and Passivent, and includes sustainable features such as an air sourced heat pump, high thermal mass, super insulation, grey water recycling and intelligent lighting.

Teams from CCB  will be walking and running a Shelterbox from our Saltash Campus via the
St Austell  Campus (3rd February) to Camborne Campus (4th February) before finishing at the ‘Business Space’ in Truro on 5th February.

The walk is approximately 85 miles taking the teams through several local towns and villages collecting on the way. If you see them please show your support!

As many readers will be aware, Greenpower only exists through the support of our partners. There are several different ways in which organisations work with us, and we thought it’d be useful to explain how it all works.

We have a number of core partners who help us cover the general day to day cost or running of Greenpower, and also allow us to develop new ideas and set new challenges.

Then there are organisations that support our regional events with funding and volunteers.  This can be an opportunity for local business to meet their future workforce, and fulfil many aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility.

Companies and individuals are very generous with funding, materials and their time direct to local schools to enable them to take part in this exciting challenge. Building an electric vehicle can be quite a daunting prospect but with external support it can become a reality.

Greenpower could not exist without the army of volunteers who give up their time to help us at events.  Assisting with scrutineering, track and pit marshalling they all help to ensure the events are safely and effectively managed.

Finally, there are the volunteers who work tirelessly in the background such as our timekeepers who have developed the unique Greenpower timing system, and the members of our Steering Group who assist with new ideas and future direction.
