Educational Experience
Taking part in Greenpower is a real educational experience for all involved, and not just the pupils!
The
Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) now recommend
Greenpower as a project for Design and Technology at Key Stage 4.
The downloadable files on the right of the page link the various stages of designing, building and racing a Greenpower car to the guidelines of the examination boards Edexcel, OCR and AQA at Key Stage 4 in 'Resistant Materials', 'Systems and Control' and 'Physics'.
Teaching Today with Greenpower
Many schools have used Greenpower in the past as a teaching tool. Some students have been known to build complete cars for their GCSE and AS Level coursework! Others will design and make a part of a car as development of an existing vehicle, or manufacture of a new vehicle.
Goblins at primary school, Formula 24 at secondary school, and Formula 35 at sixth-form or college, can all be useful in teaching the curriculum.
Why not incorporate every aspect of the Greenpower project into school life? Areas you could look at with your colleagues include:
- Vehicle design and livery – Graphics, model making.
- Photography - production and events.
- Media – Sponsorship, marketing, video of production and events.
- Textiles – Team clothing
- Food Technology – Food for drivers!
- ICT – Lap times, data logging, software and hardware, car electronics
If you have used any aspect of Greenpower as part of the curriculum, we would like to hear from you – please e-mail the details to marketing@greenpower.co.uk
