St Johns Street Cycles - Problem
  • SWCC November 2011
    Hi
Has anyone else had problems recently with SJS? They accepted our order and agreed to accept a cheque before dispatch. We posted it off in October and heard nothing. Chased them up today to be told "We will no longer accept cheques or orders by post"
How do other schools manage? We don't have a school credit card or Paypal.............

I end up purchasing many items myself (below say £50), then claiming back through petty cash against the Greenpower budget - which until recently was only provided by kind sponsors. Usually the processing time to claim back petty cash is quicker than the ordering time. We did consider setting up a positive balance credit card for Greenpower purchases, but never got round to it.

I would recommend Chain Reaction for speedy deliveries, and the urging of your school bursar to enter the 21st century wouldn't hurt either!

Never had a problem with SJS as we always card then re-claim. But I totaly understand your frustration with companies that won't contact you to let you know that there is a problem with your order. Big no need.

We often buy from SJS and have never had any problem but I buy with my own card and as above and get reimbursed from school against the budget. Easiest way really and buy lots of stuff that way to speed jup deliveries.

Thanks for the feedback. So it's not just me that can't get the school purchasing system to work for us!!
Getting the bursar into the 21C is the main problem!! I fear that she may well have left the centuary well before she accepts the developments!!! We are a state school (almost Academy but that's another story where all the problems relate to accounts!!!) We are constantly told that there is no way a school could ever hold a credit cart to make payments.
They have agreed to me putting it on my card, so at least we are making progress and may even have wheels on the car in time for the start of the season!!!!

I have had this problem, they don't even bother to tell us that they are ignoring the order. I will just go else where.
I am unwilling to use my own card and don't think that it should be expected either, as there is a slim chance I won't get my money back quick enough. I do admit I use eBay and PayPal and claim back but that doesn't involve a credit card as PP just takes what it needs direct from my bank account. Glad to see all School Controllers of Finance are in the 20th C they blame the auditors and we all know what C they are in. Can't see why each dept doesn't have it's own Visa card, that was what used to happen in industry 15 years ago.
