The Greenpower Design Build Race Challenge Enters a New Phase

Mike, Wednesday 13th August, 2014

The Greenpower Design, Build, Race challenge celebrates the start of a new chapter in its development with our first International Finals being held at the Goodwood Motor Circuit on Sunday 12th October 2014.

The Greenpower challenge is for schools and young people to design, build and race their own single seat car, based on our regulation electric motor and batteries. They then have to race for a set time on a single set of charged batteries. The Goodwood Finals will see the top 80 cars from the 11-16 age group competing over two 90 minute races and the 16-25 age group racing their final one hour heat to decide the year's championship. This will be raced simultaneously with the one hour Silverline Corporate Challenge open to companies and universities.

Having previously had teams from Poland and the USA take part, 2014 has seen international participation at all age groups with Newtownmountkennedy School in Ireland becoming our first international primary school competing in our IET Formula Goblin event. We also have a university team from Portugal and the Mandela School of Science & Technology from Mvezo, South Africa completing the international representation in the two older age groups.

This year's Finals will once again feature an interactive technology and careers exhibition area and there will be a series of short, engaging talks on engineering and technology careers from people like the Chief Executive of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a senior designer from Nissan and a legendary inventor!

The event is open to the public with the exhibition open from 10:00 with the team parade at 10:30 and the first race at 11:00. Entry is free but there is a charge for parking.
