The Corporate Challenge 2009

Greenpower: The Background

Greenpower has been inspiring the next generation of engineers since 1999, through our electric car races for schools programme. Hundreds of schools and thousands of students nationwide have taken part over the years.

Pupils from primary school age upwards stuck into both theoretical and practical engineering in exciting and unique design, build and race projects, which culminate in occasions such as our prestigious four hour endurance races at major motor circuits around the UK.

Three categories cater for anyone in education aged 9-21. Each formula is closely controlled by its own unique and rigid specification which requires cars to use identical electric motors and batteries.

The Corporate Challenge

In April 2008 the first Corporate Challenge took place, where industry took on the top 15 secondary school cars from the previous year. The great success of this inaugral event, with entries ranging from Bentley Motors to BBC's Blue Peter, means it will be repeated in 2009 on Sunday 26th April at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.

Entrant companies and organisations can opt to start from scratch and build their own car with employees as drivers and pit crew, or team up with a local school that is already involved in Greenpower and help to develop their car, and perhaps use their existing experienced drivers.

Each car in the challenge must comply with Formula 24 + 2009 regulations (available September 2008) and teams must comprise of a minimum of three drivers plus backup pit crew on race day.
