IET Formula Goblin
IET Formula Goblin events are run on a points system. The team with the least amount of points at the end of the day are the overall winners. There will be 12 opportunities for each car to complete a run. A “Run” consists of a slalom section followed by a drag section to the finish. The driver will remain the same for both sections of a run. The slalom and the drag event will be timed separately. After the racing events, the fastest car will win one point, the second fastest two points, etc.
Due to the current restrictions, we will not be conducting face to face judging whereby the judges must speak with teams directly or review items such as a portfolio. This will result in a change to the awards that are on offer for the event. We will continue to award the following prizes with judging being conducted from a safe distance:
Under these restrictions we will not be able to award the following prizes:
We understand the enjoyment students get from being able to talk to our judges about their cars and we will endeavour to return to the judging parade as soon as it is safe to do so.
All awards will be judged on the day. All awards carry additional (minus) points towards a team’s overall score for the day. The overall winner will be the team with the least points.
IET Formula 24/24+
This year’s events will continue to operate under the Covid secure procedure trialled during 2020, until a time when it is safe to ease restrictions. For more information on these procedures please see Covid-19 Event Section at the top of the event calendar (www.greenpower.co.uk/events).
Race trophy winners will be awarded to the car that achieves the highest accumulative mileage combining four sprint races. F24 and F24+ will compete at the same time. Race Mileage will be calculated using the following formula:
Race Mileage = ((TotalLaps - 1) * LapLength) + (LapLength - (((FinishingTime - RaceDuration) / LastLapTime) * LapLength))
Trophies will be awarded to:
The ‘Spirit of Greenpower’ and ‘Best Presented Team’ supplementary trophies will still be awarded at events, with judging conducted at a safe distance.
We understand for some teams this revised format may not be suitable, but please note this is a result of the pandemic. It is our intention to return to the preferred format of the 90/60 minute endurance races for the F24/F24+ categories respectively as soon as it is possible to do so.
IET Formula 24+ Championship
Due to the current restrictions in place limiting the number of teams that can attend an event, there will be no championship points table for 2021. Instead, there will be open entry to the F24+ International Finals Race, where the winner of the race will be crowned the 2021 champion. As it is not possible to determine a fair qualification system for the F24+ category, this will only happen if the finals can run without restrictions to event capacity. It is hoped that this can be avoided and that a F24+ race takes place at the International Finals. A return to the championship points table is expected for the 2022 season.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the event format or qualification system, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
No qualification is required to compete at the Gathering of Goblins. We welcome entrants from far and wide to compete against each other in the biggest IET Formula Goblin event of the year.
Qualified teams will be determined by the order of the F24 Distance Table. Each car's best mileage achieved at an official Greenpower heat will be included in the table and ranked highest to lowest. Places will be awarded until 30 Scratch Built teams are invited to enter the IET F24 Grand Final and 30 Kit Car teams are invited to enter the Kit Car Grand Final.
The table will update after each heat, your position in the qualification table is likely to change during the season. After the final heat of the season, the Final entry list will be confirmed, you will be notified if you have qualified for the event.
The pandemic has hit some teams more than others, to ensure a route to the finals remains for those who cannot compete during the season, 10 Scratch Built teams and 10 Kit car teams will be invited as wildcard entries. All F24 teams are eligible for a wildcard entry, if you wish to be considered, send an email to email@example.com with the subject “Finals Wildcard”. In the body of the email please state where you are from, your organisation name, your car name and category, along with a short insert about your team that is no longer than 350 words. Wildcard entries will be announced after the final race of the season.
Unlike previous years there is no automatic qualification to the 2021 International Finals.
F24+ teams may enter the Grand Finals through the website event page as they would for a normal heat during the season.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the event format or qualification system please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Qualified teams will be determined by the order of the F24 Distance Table. Each car's best mileage from a single event at an official Greenpower heat (mileages from all four races are combined to give an overall mileage for an event) will be included in the table and ranked highest to lowest. Places will be awarded until a percentage of Scratch Built teams are invited to enter the IET F24 International Grand Final and a percentage of Kit Car teams are invited to enter the Kit Car International Grand Final.
The table will update after each heat, meaning that your position in the qualification table is likely to change during the course of the season. After the final heat of the season, the International Final entry list will be confirmed and you will be notified if you have qualified for the event.
Unlike previous years there will be no automatic qualification to the 2021 International Finals.
Until we have a better idea of the restrictions that will remain in place for the International Finals, the number of teams that will qualify for the International Final will not be disclosed.
If you attend more than one heat during the season, your best mileage will be the mileage that marks your position in the table. Mileage from multiple heats are not combined, only one race mileage will appear in the table.
