2021 Greenpower F24 & F24+ Event Format and Qualification to International Finals

19 March 2021

Author: The Greenpower Team

The 2021 Greenpower season is in sight, with the first event set to take place on 25 April at Bedford Autodrome. Due to the current circumstances with the Covid-19 pandemic, we have revised the event format to ensure the running of a safe and fair racing season.

2021 F24 & F24+ Event Format

This year’s events will continue to operate under the Covid secure procedure trialled during 2020, until a time when it is safe to ease restrictions. We are delighted to be able to share with you our COVID-19 event manual, along with our COVID-19 Risk Assessment (to be used with our usual risk assessment), which will allow us to continue racing within the current government restrictions. Entries are now open for the majority of events we are planning to hold in 2021 on our website www.greenpower.co.uk

For the duration of 2021, all events will follow this timetable:

  • 07:30 - 09:00 – Access to site, gate open (1h 30m)
  • 08:00 – Teams arrive & scrutineering begins (1h 30m)
  • 09:30 – Practice (1h 30m)
  • 11:00 – Break (30m)
  • 11:30 – Practice (1h)
  • 12:30 – Lunch (1h)
  • 13:30 – Race 1 Start (20m)
  • 13:50 – Break (25m)
  • 14:15 – Race 2 Start (20m)
  • 14:35 – Break (25m)
  • 15:00 – Race 3 Start (20m)
  • 15:20 – Break (25m)
  • 15:45 – Race 4 Start (20m)
  • 16:00 - 17:00 – Access to site, gate open (1h)
  • 16:30 – Event close

Race trophy winners will be awarded to the car that achieves the highest accumulative mileage combining all four races. F24 and F24+ will compete at the same time.

Trophies will be awarded to:

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd – F24 Scratch Built
  • 1st 2nd, 3rd – F24 Kit Car
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd – F24+ Scratch Built
  • 1st 2nd, 3rd – F24+ Kit Car

The ‘Spirit of Greenpower’ and ‘Best Presented Team’ supplementary trophies will still be awarded at events, with judging conducted at a safe distance.

We understand for some teams this revised format may not be suitable, but please note this is a result of the pandemic. It is our intention to return to the preferred format of the 90/60 minute endurance races for the F24/F24+ categories respectively as soon as it is possible to do so.

2021 Qualification for the International Finals

Following the government roadmap, we hope that the International Final will be run with minimal or no restrictions in place. Until the situation becomes clearer, the number of teams that will qualify for the International Final will not be disclosed.

The pandemic has hit some teams more than others, so to ensure a route to the finals remains for those who cannot compete during the year, we will be assigning a small number of available spaces to wildcard entries. All teams will be eligible for a wildcard entry, so if you wish to be considered, simply send an email to info@greenpower.co.uk with the subject “Finals Wildcard”. In the body of the email please state where you are from, your organisation name, your car name and category, and a short insert about your team that is no longer than 350 words. Wildcard entries will be announced after the final race of the season.

Qualification through race results will be determined as follows:

F24

Qualified teams will be determined by the order of the F24 Distance Table. Each car's best mileage from a single event at an official Greenpower heat (mileages from all four races are combined to give an overall mileage for an event) will be included in the table and ranked highest to lowest. Places will be awarded until a percentage of Scratch Built teams are invited to enter the IET F24 International Grand Final and a percentage of Kit Car teams are invited to enter the Kit Car International Grand Final.

The table will update after each heat, meaning that your position in the qualification table is likely to change during the course of the season. After the final heat of the season, the International Final entry list will be confirmed and you will be notified if you have qualified for the event.

Unlike previous years there will be no automatic qualification to the 2021 International Finals.

F24+

Due to the current restrictions in place limiting the number of teams that can attend an event, there will be no championship points table for 2021. Instead, there will be open entry to the F24+ International Finals Race, where the winner of the race will be crowned the 2021 champion. As it is not possible to determine a fair qualification system for the F24+ category, this will only happen if the finals can run without restrictions to event capacity. It is hoped that this can be avoided and that a F24+ race takes place at the International Finals. A return to the championship points table is expected for the 2022 season.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the event format or qualification system please email gavin@greenpower.co.uk.
