From Competitor to Employee

Who saw this coming? Competing in Greenpower was a wonderful experience and one that set me up for a fantastic career in engineering. I went on to apply for a technical apprenticeship with Renishaw plc who then started up their own team allowing me to continue the challenge. It was a great way of networking within the company, bringing in a range of people from different backgrounds. I soon reached a point where I decided it was best to leave the team and allow others to benefit from Greenpower, as I had done. I was still infected with the enthusiasm from my first event and went on to volunteer as one of Greenpower’s commentators, giving me the chance to meet the Greenpower community. It was a sheer joy to talk to so many young people at events and listen to their stories; something that I hope to continue where I am able.

Although I was successful in my career at Renishaw plc, an opportunity opened up at Greenpower and given how I had benefitted from the challenge, I decided I could not pass it up. To my amazement I was offered the role, so I am now working at Greenpower Education trust as their Partnership & Development Officer. In this role I will be picking up Greenpower’s connections with sponsors and partners to continually improve the Greenpower experience.
